Slimmer Swimmer Programme

Overweight dogs can benefit immensley from hydrotherapy  – of course in conjunction with a weight loss programme and veterinary recommendations.  Many overweight dogs can find it difficult to carry out lots of exercise on land which is why hydrotherapy is so good by the provision of an all round cardiovascular work out – without the added stresses of carrying excess weight on joints. Our Slimmer Swimmer programmes are a bit like the human Weight Watchers and consists of a weight check prior to each swim. After a few sessions you should be able to watch the change in your dogs general well being and attitude to life as their weight reduces.

Hydrotherapy is good where weight bearing exercise would be deemed too strenuous (either before (pre) or post (after) operations).  It avoids risk of high impact stress on ligaments again both pre and post operative and is an effective way of regaining muscle mass, body condition, normal gait positioning, stamina and fitness levels.

It is important to note that degenerative conditions such as Hip Dysplasia or Spondylosis can not be cured by the use of hydrotherapy, however it does help delay the progress of the condition if used early enough.
